KABUL, July 21 (Xinhua) -- At least four people have been confirmed dead and two others were injured in a road accident in northern Afghanistan's Badakhshan province, the provincial police said in a statement Sunday night.
The incident occurred when a truck collided with a tricycle in Madaba region, along the highway linking Faizabad, the provincial capital, with Kasham district. Four commuters of the tricycle were killed on the spot, and two others sustained injuries, the statement added.
Reckless driving was cited as the primary cause of the incident. The injured were shifted to a nearby health center for treatment, it added.
In a similar incident, 11 people lost their lives and four others were critically injured in a highway crash in southern Helmand province a couple of days ago.
Road accidents are prevalent in Afghanistan due to poor road conditions, reckless driving, challenging terrains, overloading, overtaking and speeding. ■
