SYDNEY, July 20 (Xinhua) -- Two men died in a plane crash in Australia's state of Queensland on Sunday afternoon.

Local emergency services were called to Oakey, a rural town about 150 km west of Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland, just after 3 p.m. local time on Sunday after reports of a light plane crash, Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported on Sunday evening.

A Queensland Fire Department spokesperson said crews arrived at the scene to find the twin turboprop Reims Cessna F406 plane alight and quickly extinguished the blaze.

Queensland Police Acting Senior Sergeant Matt Forbes described the plane as a "fireball" after it crashed in a field. The two occupants of the plane died on impact, he confirmed.

The two men have not yet been identified.

Forbes said investigations show the plane was a commercial aircraft involved in a routine flight.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau said the incident had been reported and would be investigating the crash.
