KABUL, July 19 (Xinhua) -- A local businessman has established a toffee producing plant in northern Afghanistan's Kunduz province to create job opportunities, the state-run Radio and Television of Afghanistan reported on Saturday.
Constructed at a cost of 15 million afghani (about 217,000 U.S. dollars), the plant currently produces 2.5 tons of toffee in 13 different types daily, the plant's owner, Mohammad Nadir Qadiri, was quoted as saying.
More than 20 people have been employed at the plant, Qadiri said, hoping the number of employees would increase with the expansion of production.
Mawlawi Mohammad Rahim Sirat, director for Industry and Commerce of Kunduz province, said that the plant would help support the private sector to boost local products.
The Afghan interim government has repeatedly assured support to investment and called on domestic and foreign companies to invest in post-war Afghanistan. ■
