ISLAMABAD, July 19 (Xinhua) -- At least four terrorists affiliated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were killed and two policemen were injured during a joint operation by police and paramilitary forces in Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, officials said Saturday.
The operation was conducted by acting on intelligence reports regarding the presence of militants in Hangu area of the province, during which the terrorists were killed, Deputy Superintendent of Police Amjad Khan told media.
Additional security forces were deployed to reinforce the area and prevent any retaliatory attacks, he added.
The injured policemen were shifted to a nearby hospital where their condition is stable, Khan added.
The officer said the killed terrorists were involved in recent attacks in the region, amid growing concerns over an uptick in militant activity across parts of the province.
The TTP, designated as a terrorist group by Pakistan, has intensified its attacks in recent months, targeting security forces and infrastructure in the country's northwest. ■
