KUALA LUMPUR, July 18 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's exports were up by 3.8 percent year-on-year to 760.2 billion ringgit (179.8 billion U.S. dollars) in the first half, underpinned by higher electrical and electronics (E&E) shipments, official data showed Friday.
The Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry said in a statement that exports of manufactured goods expanded by 5.2 percent year-on-year to 656.56 billion ringgit in the first half, backed by strong exports of E&E products, machinery, equipment and parts, as well as processed food.
Malaysia's exports to the U.S. during the period expanded 28 percent year-on-year to 111.59 billion ringgit, while exports to the European Union climbed 5.1 percent to 58.97 billion ringgit.
Meanwhile, Malaysia's overall trade performance remained firm in the first half, increasing by 4.8 percent year-on-year to 1.47 trillion ringgit.
Malaysia's imports for the period rose 5.9 percent year-on-year to 704.67 billion ringgit. (1 ringgit equals 0.24 U.S. dollars) ■
