OTTAWA, July 17 (Xinhua) -- The Canada Border Services Agency announced Thursday a "significant seizure" of suspected cocaine being smuggled into Canada.

A search of a pickup truck at a border crossing in British Columbia last month yielded the largest-ever seizure of cocaine at that port of entry, according to a news release by the border guard agency.

On June 11, border services officers at the Osoyoos port of entry examined the pickup truck of a Canadian citizen who was returning to Canada from the United States, said the release.

"Upon examination of the vehicle's truck bed, officers found bricks of cocaine weighing a total of 70 kilograms," the release said, adding that it represents an estimated 140,000 individual doses.

"With this significant seizure, illegal drugs will not end up in our communities, and the profits will not end up in the hands of organized crime," said Canada's Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree in the release.

The driver of the truck was arrested and then transferred into police custody, said the release.
