COLOMBO, July 18 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lankan police have arrested 3,283 suspects linked to drug trafficking and related crimes in a week-long special operation that began on July 11, police said on Friday.
Police media spokesman F. U. Wootler said that during the operation, police seized 2,464 drug tablets, 784 illicit cigarettes, and 5,923 cannabis plants. Officers also confiscated 1.7 kg of heroin and 2.375 kg of methamphetamine, he said.
The spokesman said the operation was part of the ongoing efforts to combat drugs and maintain public safety. ■
