KUALA LUMPUR, July 18 (Xinhua) -- Malaysian King Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar has approved the appointment of Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh as the new chief justice of the Federal Court, following the advice of the prime minister and after consultation with the Conference of Rulers.
Besides the appointment of the chief justice, Abu Bakar Jais was approved as the president of the Court of Appeal, and Azizah Nawawi as the chief judge of the High Court in the northern Borneo states of Sabah and Sarawak, the Office of the Federal Court Chief Registrar said in a statement late on Thursday.
The official swearing-in and presentation of the appointment letters will take place on July 28 at the National Palace.
The chief justice is the head of the Federal Court, the apex court of Malaysia. It is the highest position in the Malaysian judicial system. ■
