JAKARTA, July 17 (Xinhua) -- A Dutch climber who fell while trekking in the Mount Rinjani area of Indonesia's West Nusa Tenggara province was successfully rescued on Thursday, authorities confirmed.
Muhamad Hariyadi, head of the Mataram Search and Rescue Office, said that the climber, identified as Sarah Tamar Van Hulten, was evacuated by helicopter after sustaining injuries to her leg and the back of her neck that left her unable to walk.
"The helicopter took off from Bali at 3:45 p.m. local time. Shortly thereafter, at 4:41 p.m., it successfully landed at the scene and immediately began the evacuation process," Hariyadi said in a statement.
Thursday's rescue follows a series of recent accidents in the Mount Rinjani area, including a fall involving a Swiss climber on Tuesday and the fatal fall of a Brazilian climber into a ravine on June 21.
In light of the recurring incidents, provincial authorities are stepping up efforts to improve safety measures for climbers and tourists in the area. ■
