RIYADH, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Saudi Arabia's Diriyah Company announced Wednesday that it has awarded a contract worth 1.53 billion U.S. dollars to China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) for the construction of the Diriyah Arena block near the Saudi capital Riyadh, which includes a multi-purpose indoor complex, three mixed-use office buildings, and a parking facility.
The Diriyah Arena will have a gross floor area of approximately 74,000 square meters and is designed as a flexible and scalable venue to accommodate various events, including concerts, sporting events, e-sports competitions, exhibitions, and live shows. With a seating capacity of 20,000 spectators, it aims to attract residents and visitors from around the world, the Saudi Diriyah Company said.
The Diriyah project, located on the northwestern outskirts of the capital, Riyadh, aims to transform the historic city of Diriyah into a major cultural, heritage, and tourism destination.
Jerry Inzerillo, Group CEO of Diriyah Company, said the Diriyah Arena will be a landmark entertainment complex in Diriyah that reinforces the city's growing role "in shaping Saudi Arabia's artistic and cultural future, in alignment with Vision 2030."
Yang Zhiyuan, CEO of China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd. (Middle East), said this award "marks a significant milestone for CHEC in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia."
"China Harbour Engineering Company will bring to the project a wealth of global experience, technical expertise, and a proven track record in delivering the complex," he said.
The contract is the latest in a series of major announcements by Diriyah Company so far in 2025, as it continues to fast-track development for Diriyah. Last December, CHEC was also awarded a 202.2 million U.S. dollar contract for bulk excavation works in Diriyah. ■
