BEIRUT, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Two members of the Lebanese Hezbollah group were killed and two civilians were injured Thursday in two separate Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon, according to official and security sources.
According to the official Lebanese National News Agency (NNA), an "enemy drone" targeted a vehicle with a guided missile Thursday morning near the army checkpoint in the Toul-Kfour area of Nabatieh, deep in southern Lebanon.
Lebanon's health ministry said one person inside the vehicle was killed and two others passing by were injured. A Lebanese security source told Xinhua that the person killed was Hassan Ahmad Sabra, a member of Hezbollah.
Another Israeli drone strike took place in Naqoura, located in Lebanon's southern border region with Israel. The attack targeted a truck and killed one person inside. According to the security source, the person was also a Hezbollah member named Ali Fawzi Atwi.
The NNA reported that the Israeli forces, in another strike, blew up a building in the eastern neighborhood of the village of Houla, located in the eastern sector of the border area in southern Lebanon.
Since Nov. 27, 2024, a ceasefire agreement brokered by the United States and France has been in effect between Hezbollah and Israel, ending more than a year of clashes sparked by the war in the Gaza Strip.
Despite the agreement, the Israeli army has occasionally carried out strikes in Lebanon, claiming they are meant to eliminate Hezbollah "threats." Israel has also maintained a presence at five key positions in the Lebanese border region, despite a Feb. 18 deadline for complete withdrawal. ■
