ULAN BATOR, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Major rivers in Mongolia have seen water levels rise due to continuous downpours, local media reported Thursday, citing the weather monitoring agency.
Heavy rains have been hitting parts of the Asian country in recent days, causing floods in many areas, the Eagle News TV channel reported.
"As of Thursday, water levels in major rivers, including Orkhon, Selenge, Ider, Tamir, Baidrag, Tuin and Ongi, have surpassed warning levels by 20 cm to 120 cm due to heavy rainfall since last weekend," said the National Agency for Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring.
The agency has urged residents living near riverbanks to take precautionary measures. ■
