KUALA LUMPUR, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's producer price index (PPI) increased by 0.3 percent, while services producer price index (SPPI) increased by 0.7 percent in 2024, official data showed Wednesday.
The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that the increase of PPI was contributed by a 7.9 percent rise in the agriculture, forestry and fishing sector.
The utility sector also remained positive, as the indices for electricity and gas supply and water supply increased by 0.6 percent and 6.5 percent, respectively.
The mining sector, however, declined by 2 percent.
The manufacturing sector also posted a marginal decline of 0.3 percent in 2024.
Meanwhile, the increase of SPPI was primarily driven by the arts, entertainment and recreation index (6.7 percent), accommodation and food and beverage service activities (2.6 percent) and education (0.8 percent) indices. ■
