HANOI, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam was deploying artificial intelligence (AI)-powered surveillance cameras to automatically detect traffic violations, according to the Traffic Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security.
The system, operating around the clock, is expected to reduce the need for traffic police officers to physically patrol the streets, Vietnam News Agency reported on Thursday.
Pham Quang Huy, the department's deputy director, said the AI-integrated cameras are capable of automatically capturing and extracting images and video clips of violations, including details such as location, time and specific offense committed.
Currently, the AI system is capable of recognizing about 20 types of traffic violations involving both cars and motorcycles, with ongoing efforts to expand its detection capabilities, he said. ■
