JAKARTA, July 16 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian government will export only processed copper, products that have undergone domestic downstream processing, to the United States, said Rizwan Aryadi Ramdhan, director of mineral and coal downstreaming at the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming, on Wednesday.
His statement came in response to U.S. President Donald Trump's recent remarks praising Indonesia's high-quality copper.
"Together, we are setting up policies that support downstream processing. So we won't export raw copper," Rizwan said.
He emphasized that the government has banned the export of copper concentrates and is encouraging the development of domestic processing facilities.
"We support domestic production facilities," he added. ■
