YANGON, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Over 80 households in Kanma township, Magway region, have been evacuated due to the rising Ayeyarwady River, according to the Myanmar Fire Services Department on Wednesday.

As of Wednesday morning, a total of 373 people from 88 households have been relocated to safer areas, an official from the Kanma Township Fire Services Department told Xinhua.

The river has been rising since Sunday, and fire brigade members, ward administrative staff, and the Myanmar Police Force have been working continuously to relocate residents from riverbank villages in Kanma township to safety, he said.

The country's Department of Meteorology and Hydrology reported on Wednesday that the Ayeyarwady River has risen above the warning level in towns of Nyaung-U and Seiktha.

The weather agency has urged residents living near riverbanks and in low-lying areas to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
