DAR ES SALAAM, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Tanzania's anti-narcotics authorities have destroyed 614 acres of illicit cannabis farms in the Mikumi-Nyerere national parks wildlife corridor.

The Drug Control and Enforcement Authority (DCEA) reported on Wednesday that the 10-day operation, conducted from July 6 to 15, resulted in the seizure of 3,741.9 kilograms of dried cannabis and 1,706 kilograms of cannabis seeds.

The crackdown was carried out in partnership with the DCEA, the Tanzania National Parks Authority and local community members, the DCEA said in a statement.

Authorities dismantled 72 illegal camps and apprehended nine suspects during the operation, which targeted criminal activities that threatened both public health and Tanzania's critical wildlife habitats, according to the statement.

The operation underscores the government's commitment to combating drug-related crime and preserving Tanzania's protected areas, said the statement.

DCEA Commissioner General Aretas Lyimo said that the success of this operation reflects the power of partnership between enforcement authorities, conservation agencies and local communities.
