DAR ES SALAAM, July 15 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has donated advanced anti-poaching equipment to Tanzania to strengthen the latter's efforts in wildlife conservation and combating illegal hunting.

The donation, valued at 91,000 U.S. dollars, was handed over on Monday to Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism Pindi Chana in the capital Dodoma.

Chana said the equipment, including 20 motorcycles and seven drones, will significantly boost the government's operations against poaching.

Highlighting a positive trend, she said that the elephant population in Tanzania has grown from 43,000 in 2014 to over 60,000 by 2022, reflecting successful conservation efforts.

UNDP Representative Godfrey Mulisa said the donation was inspired by UNDP's appreciation of Tanzania's commitment to enhancing tourism and tackling wildlife crimes.
