SINGAPORE, July 15 (Xinhua) -- The women's 10km open water swimming event at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships has been postponed due to water quality levels exceeding acceptable thresholds, according to World Aquatics and the Singapore 2025 Organizing Committee here on Tuesday.

The water quality review involved representatives from World Aquatics, the Singapore 2025 Organizing Committee, the World Aquatics Sports Medicine Committee, and the World Aquatics Open Water Swimming Technical Committee.

Although recent tests had consistently met World Aquatics' acceptable standards, analysis of samples collected on July 13 revealed levels that surpassed these thresholds. Out of concern for athlete health and safety, a decision was made to postpone the race by one day, now scheduled for July 16.

Further water sampling and quality review sessions will continue at the competition venue, during which World Aquatics and the Singapore 2025 Organizing Committee will assess whether conditions are safe to proceed with the event at a later date.

The open water swimming event is being held off Sentosa Island in southern Singapore. China has entered six swimmers in the open water competitions.
