KABUL, July 11 (Xinhua) -- A coalmine worker lost his life and another sustained injury as a tunnel of a coalmine collapsed in northern Afghanistan's Samangan province on Thursday, provincial police spokesman Hashmatullah Rahmani said Friday.
The accident took place in Dara-i-Sufi Bala district when the ill-fated miners were busy extracting coal from the mines, the official said, adding police have handed over the body of the miner to his family, and the injured one has been shifted to the hospital.
A similar accident claimed seven lives and injured two others in a coal mine in the same province in May this year.
Lack of modern machinery in extracting mines, lack of safety measures, and unskilled workers, according to Afghans, often claim the lives of miners in Afghanistan. ■
