SEOUL, July 10 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's tax revenue rose for the first five months of this year on higher corporate and income taxes, government data showed Thursday.

Tax revenue ran to 172.3 trillion won (125.6 billion U.S. dollars) in the cited period, up 21.3 trillion won (15.5 billion dollars) compared to the same period of last year, according to the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

Aggregate revenue, including tax and non-tax revenue, totaled 279.8 trillion won (204.0 billion dollars) during the cited period, up 21.6 trillion won (15.8 billion dollars) from a year earlier.

Total expenditure climbed 4.9 trillion won (3.6 billion dollars) over the year to 315.3 trillion won (229.9 billion dollars) in the first five months of this year.

The managed fiscal balance, excluding the social security fund, recorded a deficit of 54.2 trillion won (39.5 billion dollars) in the cited period.

The central government's debt stood at 1,217.8 trillion won (887.0 billion dollars) at the end of May, up 19.9 trillion won (14.5 billion dollars) from a month earlier.
