BEIRUT, July 10 (Xinhua) -- A member of Lebanon's Hezbollah was killed, and two others injured Thursday in an Israeli drone strike in southwestern Lebanon, said the Lebanese Health Ministry.

According to a statement by the Public Health Emergency Operations Center, affiliated with the ministry, an Israeli drone targeted a motorcycle in the municipality of Mansouri, part of the city of Tyre in southwestern Lebanon, leading to the casualties.

A Lebanese security source told Xinhua that the person killed is Thaer Mohammad Murad from the town of Haniya, a member of Hezbollah. Details regarding his role within the group were not disclosed.

As of now, there has been no official comment from the Israeli military.

Despite a ceasefire agreement reached in November 2024, ending 14 months of cross-border fighting, Israel has continued occasional strikes in Lebanon.

Meanwhile, the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL)'s spokesperson Andrea Tenenti said in a statement that several individuals in civilian clothes confronted in the morning UN peacekeepers near Wadi Jilo while they were on a planned patrol.

The Lebanese Armed Forces arrived at the scene, and the situation was brought under control, the spokesperson said. No casualties were reported.

"Any attack on peacekeepers constitutes a serious violation of international law and Resolution 1701. We have requested that the Lebanese authorities bring the perpetrators to justice," he said, noting that the UNIFIL "will continue to monitor and report on violations of Resolution 1701 impartially."

The incident highlights ongoing sensitivities surrounding UNIFIL's presence in the region, where tensions between peacekeepers and local communities occasionally surface despite coordination efforts with Lebanese authorities.
