SYDNEY, July 10 (Xinhua) -- One person has died and two more have been hospitalized with serious injuries after being struck by a car in Melbourne's eastern suburbs.
A police statement said on Thursday that emergency services responded to reports that a vehicle lost control and struck three pedestrians before driving through a fence in Wantirna South, 25 kilometers east of central Melbourne, around 12:20 pm local time on Thursday.
One of the pedestrians died at the scene.
A second person has been transported to the hospital in a critical condition, and a third was hospitalized with serious injuries.
The driver of the vehicle was not seriously injured but was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
Police said earlier that the incident is not believed to have been intentional. ■
