TOKYO, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks ended higher Tuesday as concerns eased after the U.S. new tariff rate on Japan turned out to be just slightly higher than initially announced.

Japan's benchmark Nikkei stock index, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average, ended up 101.13 points, or 0.26 percent, from Monday at 39,688.81.

The broader Topix index, meanwhile, finished 4.82 points, or 0.17 percent, higher at 2,816.54.

On the stock market, the Nikkei index initially tracked overnight Wall Street losses after U.S. President Donald Trump announced 25 percent tariffs on imports from Japan, beginning Aug. 1.

But the benchmark soon moved into positive territory, with the tariff rate little changed from 24 percent announced in April, analysts said.
