JAKARTA, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's bank lending in May grew by 8.43 percent year-on-year to 7,998 trillion rupiahs (approximately 493 billion U.S. dollars), the country's Financial Services Authority (OJK) said on Tuesday.
Based on the type of use, investment credit recorded the highest growth at 13.74 percent year-on-year, followed by consumer credit at 8.82 percent and working capital credit at 4.94 percent year-on-year, according to Dian Ediana Rae, chief executive of banking supervision at OJK.
From the debtor category, credit disbursement for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) grew by only 2.17 percent year-on-year in May, while lending to corporates expanded by 11.92 percent.
Furthermore, credit quality remained stable, with the gross non-performing loan (NPL) ratio at 2.29 percent in May, five basis points lower than the same period last year. ■
