JAKARTA, July 7 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian government has raised its rice production projection for 2026 to 33.8 million tons, up from the earlier estimate of 32 million tons made at the beginning of this year, Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman announced on Monday.
The increased projection reflects the government's continued efforts to improve agricultural productivity, the minister said.
"The Ministry of Agriculture targets rice production in 2026 at 33.8 million tons," Sulaiman said during a working meeting with lawmakers at the parliament building.
To achieve this target, the government will prioritize several strategic programs next year, including land optimization, the expansion of rice fields, the preparation of superior seed varieties, and the advancement of downstream agricultural initiatives.
National rice production has recently reached its highest level in the past seven years, positioning Indonesia as one of the most productive rice-producing countries in the ASEAN region. ■
