JAKARTA, July 3 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued a warning about the threat of extreme weather conditions following a deadly maritime accident that claimed six lives, BMKG head Dwikorita Karnawati said on Thursday.
Huge waves and strong winds caused the passenger ship KM Tunu Pratama Jaya to sink in the Bali Strait on Wednesday night, leaving 24 people missing, according to Gusti Ayu Ketut Wijayanti, spokesperson for the Search and Rescue Office in Bali.
Karnawati noted that the extreme sea weather matched the BMKG's forecast released a week before the tragic incident. ■
