JAKARTA, June 28 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway, known as Whoosh, set a new milestone on Thursday by carrying 25,794 passengers in a single day, its highest daily ridership since operations began in October 2023.
The record was announced on Friday by PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC), a joint venture between Indonesian and Chinese companies that constructs and operates the railway.
"The significant increase in passengers is in line with the long weekend holiday coinciding with the school break," said Eva Chairunisa, KCIC's general manager corporate secretary, in a written statement to Xinhua. "But clearly, the public's enthusiasm for using Whoosh as their preferred mode of transportation is evident from the surge in ticket purchases," she said.
As of Friday morning, PT KCIC had already sold over 16,000 tickets for the day's departures and expected the number of passengers to surpass 24,000.
To enhance the travel experience, Whoosh also distributed 1,000 free merchandise items for child passengers and 500 vouchers for lucky travelers.
"School holidays and the long weekend are a special moment for many families to travel together. We hope Whoosh can continue to be part of a fun and memorable holiday experience for all passengers," Eva added.■
