BERLIN, June 26 (Xinhua) -- A 27-year-old man was shot dead by police on Thursday in Wangen, near Stuttgart in southwestern Germany, according to the local criminal police office.
The man, confirmed as an asylum seeker, attacked officers with a knife as they attempted to detain him. Police responded with gunfire, hitting him multiple times. He died despite resuscitation efforts.
One officer sustained serious stab wounds but is not in life-threatening condition. ■
