JAKARTA, June 24 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian Ministry of Investment and Downstream signed a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday with the authorities of Batam City to establish a special desk as a service center aimed at accelerating and attracting more investment in Batam.

Batam City, located in the Riau Islands, is one of Indonesia's most important maritime routes for national and international shipping. In addition, Batam is a free trade zone.

Minister of Investment and Downstream Rosan Roeslani promised that his ministry will work to ensure the investment process in the region runs smoothly.

"We hope that everything can be accelerated and can strengthen the investment services that will enter Batam," he said.

Roeslani said the cooperation was a form of the Indonesian government's commitment to attract more investment into the country, considering that the capital investment target for the next five years is set to reach 13,032 trillion rupiahs.

Batam Mayor Amsakar Achmad said that in 2024, Batam's economic growth was recorded at 6.69 percent, exceeding the national economic growth average of 5.03 percent.
