JAKARTA, June 23 (Xinhua) -- The governments of Indonesia and Russia have strengthened strategic cooperation in the sports sector, Indonesian Minister of Youth and Sports Ario Bimo Nandito Ariotedjo said in a statement issued on Monday.

Ariotedjo and his Russian counterpart, Michael Degtyarev, officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on strategic cooperation in sports on June 19 on the sidelines of the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum.

The MoU reflects both countries' strong commitment to building an inclusive, innovative, and sustainable sports ecosystem.

"Sport is a universal language that can bridge friendship and global collaboration, especially in preparing a superior and competitive young generation," Ariotedjo stated.

The MoU outlines five key areas of strategic cooperation, including development of young athletes, exchange of knowledge and capacity building, increasing international exposure for young athletes, sports diplomacy in international forums, management of sustainable and inclusive training centers.

This strategic cooperation is expected to become a shared journey of mutual learning and growth for Indonesia and Russia, not only in pursuit of medals but also in shaping national character, unity, and global competitiveness.
