MOSCOW, June 22 (Xinhua) -- The use of the right to self-defense without regard for the UN Charter leads to complete chaos, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Sunday, commenting on Israel's attacks on Iran.
"If every country interprets the UN Charter's right to self-defense as 'I decide when to use this right, and I won't refer back to the Charter,' there will clearly be no world order, but complete chaos," Lavrov said.
During a telephone conversation with Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto on Sunday, Lavrov emphasized that the U.S. missile and bomb strike against a sovereign state's territory marks a new, dangerous spiral of conflict escalation.
He noted this could have unpredictable consequences and has already damaged the nuclear non-proliferation regime, as well as regional and global security. ■
