DAMASCUS, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Syrian interim leader Ahmed al-Sharaa issued a decree Sunday granting a 200 percent increase in the base salaries and wages of public sector employees, according to the state news agency SANA.
The raise applies to workers across ministries, state administrations, public institutions, and companies within the public sector. It also includes administrative units and joint-sector entities in which the state holds at least a 50 percent stake.
The move marks the first major wage increase since the interim government took power, as the country continues to grapple with the economic aftermath of over a decade of war, widespread inflation, and infrastructure collapse. ■
