TEHRAN, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Iran on Sunday reported explosions near the southern city of Bushehr, where a nuclear power plant is located, and in the central province of Yazd, the semi-official Fars news agency reported.

The explosions in Yazd were the result of Israel's "aggressions" against two military areas in the province, Fars quoted a statement by Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) as saying.

Elaborating on the attacks, Saeid Rastgari, a provincial official, said the situation was under the control of the province's security and law enforcement forces.

Esmaeil Dehestani, Yazd's deputy governor for political and security affairs, said no water or electricity infrastructure was damaged in the attacks.

Commenting on the blasts in Bushehr, Ehsan Jahanian, the province's deputy governor for political, security and social affairs, said they occurred due to Israeli airstrikes on two military sites, according to the semi-official Tasnim news agency.

He added the city's air defense had immediately become activated and destroyed the hostile targets.

Israel since June 13 has launched major airstrikes on different areas in Iran, including nuclear and military sites, killing senior commanders, nuclear scientists and civilians.

Iran has retaliated Israel's attacks with missile and drone strikes. As of Saturday, more than 400 Iranians have been killed and over 3,000 wounded, according to Iran's Health Ministry. In Israel, the death toll stands at 24, according to local authorities.
