PRAGUE, June 20 (Xinhua) -- Slovakia has temporarily closed its embassy in the Iranian capital, Tehran, and started evacuating its staff amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran, the country's Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs announced on Friday.
According to a statement on the ministry's website, the head of Slovak diplomacy decided on Thursday to close the embassy until overall security conditions are deemed favorable for the return of diplomatic personnel.
In light of the continued military escalation, the ministry said it had initiated the full evacuation of the Slovak Embassy in Tehran, with the remaining staff scheduled to leave Iranian territory on Friday.
Citizens facing crises or in urgent need of consular assistance are advised to contact the ministry's International Crisis Management Center.
In recent days, Slovakia evacuated more than 200 Slovak citizens and foreign nationals from the Middle East via government-organized evacuation flights. ■
