LJUBLJANA, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Slovenia has temporarily withdrawn its diplomatic staff and their families from the embassy in Tehran due to escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs announced on Thursday.

All Slovenian nationals working at the embassy have left Iran, and consular services have been suspended until further notice. The ministry emphasized that the move is a precautionary security measure and does not signal any change in diplomatic relations with Iran.

The embassy remains operational under Article 19 of the 1961 Vienna Convention, allowing essential administrative tasks to be handled by designated staff.

Slovenian citizens in Iran are advised to seek assistance from other European Union (EU) embassies or contact the Foreign Ministry directly.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon held phone consultations with her Egyptian and Qatari counterparts, stressing the need to de-escalate the conflict and ensure humanitarian aid reaches Gaza. Slovenia is also coordinating with EU partners to evacuate its citizens from Israel.
