TUNIS, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Five Tunisian National Guard officers were killed in a traffic accident in the eastern province of Sfax on Thursday, the National Guard said in a statement on its official Facebook page.
The accident occurred at approximately 2:45 a.m. local time (0145 GMT) on the road linking the town of Skhira, when two light vehicles collided head-on, according to the statement.
One of the vehicles was transporting four officers, while the other was a private car driven by a fifth officer.
Initial investigations indicated that all five officers died at the scene. Authorities have launched a formal inquiry into the cause of the crash. ■
