JAKARTA, June 18 (Xinhua) -- Two people were killed and seven others injured on Wednesday after a bus carrying 11 passengers plunged into a ravine on a regional road in Central Mamuju Regency, in the eastern Indonesian province of West Sulawesi, local police confirmed.
The incident occurred in the mountainous area of Topoyo at around 5:20 a.m. local time. According to Central Mamuju police, the cause of the accident was likely a brake malfunction.
Police said officers had evacuated all the victims and were still at the scene salvaging the vehicle, while the investigation into the accident is underway.
Deadly road accidents are common in the Southeast Asian country due to overloading, poor road conditions, and reckless driving. ■
