ISLAMABAD, June 18 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said here on Wednesday that the country has been prioritizing the digitalization of its economy to yield economic benefits, efficiency, transparency as well as promote entrepreneurial innovation.
"Digital economy is among Pakistan's top reform priorities, and in the recently announced federal budget, a number of initiatives have been launched for the promotion of cashless economy," Sharif said while chairing a high-level meeting on digitalization.
He said that the country has been taking steps to discourage the informal economy and to promote digital transactions for shopping and money transfers, adding that a high-level committee has been formed to promote a cashless economy and speed up the digitization.
Besides that, Sharif said that the traders are being given instructions regarding digital payments and transfers of money through digital means.
Talking about the improved economic indicators, the premier highlighted that the inflation rate had substantially reduced and the foreign remittances had increased due to the improvement in Pakistan's economy.
The recent bullish trend in the stock market reflected the investors' trust over the country's policies, he added. ■
