NEW DELHI, June 18 (Xinhua) -- Three Naxal commanders were killed Wednesday in a gunfight with police in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, the police said.
The gunfight broke out in the Kondamodalu forest area of Alluri Sitarama Raju district, about 400 km northeast of Amaravati, the capital of Andhra Pradesh, when their units carried out a search operation in the area on specific intelligence information suggesting the presence of Naxals.
The search operations in the forest area are still underway.
The police said they have not suffered any damage in the stand-off, and suspected the Naxal commanders have entered the state from the neighbouring Chhattisgarh. ■
