SYDNEY, June 18 (Xinhua) -- Six teenagers have been hospitalized with serious injuries after an allegedly stolen vehicle crashed at high speed in northern Melbourne in Australia's state of Victoria.
A police statement said on Wednesday that officers spotted the vehicle, which was reported stolen on Tuesday, driving at speed in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Officers lost sight of the vehicle but it was spotted again by the aerial unit and monitored until it rolled near the entrance of a freeway in Epping, 20 kilometers north of central Melbourne, after 1:20 a.m. local time.
Emergency services attended the scene and all six occupants of the vehicle, including three 17-year-old males, two 16-year-old males and a 19-year-old female, were taken to the hospital with serious injuries under police guard.
It will be alleged by police that the vehicle was stolen during an aggravated burglary at a home in northeast Melbourne in the early hours of Tuesday.
The investigation into the incident remains ongoing, said the police. ■
