ISLAMABAD, June 18 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan on Wednesday unveiled National Tariff Policy (NTP) 2025-30 as part of its broader agenda to promote industrialization and sustainable economic growth.
Speaking during the unveiling ceremony here, Rana Ihsaan Afzal Khan, coordinator to the Pakistani prime minister on commerce and industries, said that the new policy is designed to create a predictable, transparent, and investment-friendly tariff structure, reflecting Pakistan's strong commitment to rationalizing tariff regime, simplifying business processes, and fostering export-led growth.
Khan said that by facilitating duty-free access to raw materials, phasing out additional customs duties and regulatory duties, and supporting nascent and green industries, the NTP paves the way for innovation, employment generation, and sustained economic growth.
The policy aims to benefit key sectors including textiles, engineering, pharmaceuticals, and information technology, while encouraging investment and reducing production costs across the board, he added.
Khan highlighted that the reforms under the policy will enable Pakistan's industries to compete globally, and shift towards higher value-added exports, adding that with these changes, Pakistan anticipates not just stronger gross domestic product growth, but also increased employment, improved industrial productivity, and enhanced investor confidence. ■
