SARAJEVO, June 16 (Xinhua) -- The European Union (EU) on Monday donated specialized surveillance and inspection equipment worth 1.4 million KM (828,800 U.S. dollars) to the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) to bolster efforts in combating irregular migration and smuggling.

The donation includes 25 drones, 30 thermal cameras, five heartbeat detectors, and trailers for service dogs. Operator training is also being provided.

"The EU remains firmly committed to supporting BiH on its path toward EU integration - including aligning its border security and migration management with EU standards," said Karel Lizerot, head of the Section for Justice and Home Affairs, Migration, and Public Administration Reform at the EU Delegation to BiH.

Over the past seven years, the EU has provided more than 9 million euros (10.4 million U.S. dollars) to support BiH's Border Police. In 2025, the EU will finance a seven-month training program for 142 new cadets.

On June 11, BiH and the EU signed the Frontex Status Agreement in Brussels. The agreement will allow the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) to conduct joint operations at BIH's borders and deploy its standing corps.
