JAKARTA, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's central bank said on Monday that as of April this year, the country's foreign debt reached 431.5 billion U.S. dollars, growing 8.2 percent year-on-year.

According to Bank Indonesia, the debt is used to support the health service sector and social activities, which cover 22.3 percent of the total government foreign debt, the government administration, defense, and compulsory social security at 18.7 percent, education services at 16.4 percent, construction at 12 percent, and transportation and warehousing at 8.7 percent.

"The April 2025 foreign debt position is sourced from the public sector. The increase in the position of the debt is also affected by the weakening factor of the U.S. dollar against the majority of global currencies," said Executive Director of Bank Indonesia's Communication Department, Ramdan Denny Prakoso, in a statement.

Prakoso said the Indonesian government was still committed to maintaining its credibility by carefully managing the government's priority purchases.
