BAGHDAD, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein held a phone conversation on Monday with his Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi to discuss the latest regional developments following the Israel-Iran conflict.
Hussein emphasized that Iraq's position on Israel's "aggression" is clear and firm, and that the Iraqi government is continuing its relentless diplomatic efforts to prevent the escalation of the conflict and secure a ceasefire, according to a statement by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry.
He warned of the dangerous repercussions any expansion of the war could have on regional security and stability, stressing Iraq's commitment to de-escalation.
For his part, Araghchi said that Israel is seeking to widen the conflict to include the Gulf region, emphasizing that Iran's ongoing operations are part of a defensive response to Israeli attacks, and are not aimed at escalating the confrontation with other parties. ■
