CAIRO, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced on Monday the formation of a crisis committee to monitor and address the potential repercussions of the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict on Egypt.
Madbouly will head the committee, which is tasked with ensuring preparedness for any developments across various Egyptian sectors, the Egyptian cabinet said in a statement.
The newly established committee comprises a high-level roster of officials, including the Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt and ministers from key portfolios such as industry, planning, economic development, international cooperation, electricity and renewable energy, finance, supply and internal trade, and petroleum and mineral resources.
According to the statement, Madbouly plans to hold regular meetings with the committee members.
This development follows an announcement on Friday by the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, confirming a halt in natural gas supplies from Israel in the aftermath of the Israeli attack on Iran.
Israel has since early Friday launched airstrikes on the Iranian capital Tehran and other areas across the country, killing a number of Iran's top military commanders, nuclear scientists and civilians.
In response, Iran has since Friday night launched a series of missile and drone strikes on different targets in Israel, inflicting casualties and heavy damages. ■
