YANGON, June 15 (Xinhua) -- A total of 49 people were killed and 67 others injured in fire-related incidents across Myanmar during the first five months of 2025, state-owned Myanmar Radio and Television reported on Sunday.

From January to May, 610 fire accidents were reported, a decrease from 751 incidents during the same period last year, which resulted in 59 deaths and 62 injuries, the report said.

The fire outbreaks during this period caused damage worth over 570 million kyats (about 270,000 U.S. dollars), it added.

The main causes of the fires included negligence, faulty electrical wiring, and forest fires, it added.

To reduce fire accidents, Myanmar's Fire Services Department is conducting an awareness campaign in schools and factories, the report said.
