KABUL, June 15 (Xinhua) -- A total of 497 Afghan refugee families have returned to their homeland in a single day on Saturday, reported the state-run Bakhtar news agency on Sunday.
The former refugees returned from neighboring Pakistan and Iran, the state-owned media outlet said, adding all the returnees received necessary assistance from the Afghan interim government at the crossing points.
About seven million Afghan refugees have been living abroad. According to media reports, two million refugees, mostly from neighboring Pakistan and Iran, have returned to their homeland over the past year. ■
