LONDON, June 12 (Xinhua) -- London Gatwick Airport has confirmed that Flight AI171 that crashed on departure from Ahmedabad Airport in India on Thursday was due to land at Gatwick at 18:25 local time (1725 GMT).
"More information to follow," said Gatwick Airport on social media platform X.
An Air India plane with over 200 passengers onboard crashed shortly after takeoff Thursday at an airport in the western Indian state of Gujarat, multiple local media reports said.
According to the reports, the plane was headed to Britain. Local media footage showed thick black smoke billowing into the sky near the airport. ■
