SEOUL, June 12 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's tax revenue rose for the first four months of this year on higher corporate and income taxes, government data showed Thursday.

Tax revenue ran to 142.2 trillion won (104.7 billion U.S. dollars) in the January-April period, up 16.6 trillion won (12.2 billion dollars) compared to the same period of last year, according to the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

The collection of corporate and income taxes mounted 13.0 trillion won (9.6 billion dollars) and 3.5 trillion won (2.6 billion dollars) each, but value-added tax revenue declined 600 billion won (441.9 million dollars) in the cited month.

Aggregate revenue, including tax and non-tax revenue, totaled 231.1 trillion won (170.2 billion dollars) during the January-April period, up 17.7 trillion won (13.0 billion dollars) from a year earlier.

Total expenditure swelled 1.9 trillion won (1.4 billion dollars) over the year to 262.3 trillion won (193.2 billion dollars) in the first four months of this year.

The managed fiscal balance, excluding social security fund, recorded a deficit of 46.1 trillion won (33.9 billion dollars) in the January-April period.

The central government's debt stood at 1,197.8 trillion won (882.1 billion dollars) at the end of April, up 22.0 trillion won (16.2 billion dollars) from a month earlier.
